Why you should register your copyright and register early?
- The cost of registering a copyright is minimal.
- Registering your copyright puts others on Notice that the Work belongs to you and acts to deter others from copying your valuable copyrighted Work.
- If you register early enough, then if someone does infringe upon your copyright, through successful litigation, you qualify for attorney’s fees and established statutory damages. Being able to obtain attorney fees is advantageous to reduce the costliness of protecting your copyright and having access to established statutory damages reduces/removes the burden of proving actual damages.
In order to file suit against an infringer, the copyright must be registered.
